Traditional plant medicines are used throughout the world for a wide range of hepatoprotective activity. Therefore, investigation on such agents from traditional medicinal plants has becomes more important. India has a rich history of using various potent herbs and herbal components for treating the hepatoprotective activity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the Hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of whole plant of Cardia Sebestena. The model of carbon tetrachloride was induced by intraperitonially. CCl4 is a potent hepatotoxin producing centrilobular hepatic necrosis, which causes liver injury. CCl4 induced fatty liver and cell necrosis and play a significant role in inducing triacylglycerol accumulation, depletion of GSH, increased lipid peroxidation, membrane damage, depression of protein synthesis and loss of enzyme activity. Being cytoplasmic in location the damage marker enzymes SGOT, SGPT and HDL are released in the serum and antioxidant studies were performed. Cardia Sebestena 200 mg/kg and 400mg/kg of treated groups showed comparable hepatoprotective activity with standard drug sylimarin. The 400 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Cardia Sebestena treated group has better action the 200 mg/kg body weight
