For the acute study, EPHE was administrated to mice in high and low doses (5000mg and 2000mg) given by oral route. General behavior adverse effects and mortality were determined up to 14 days. In the Sub-acute study, the EPHE was administered orally based on geometrical mean dose level at doses of 250,500 and 1000 mg/kg body wt for 28 days to mice. Body weight, biochemical and hematological parameters were determined at the end of 28 days of daily administration. The studies on sub-acute toxicity reveals that no mortalities or evidence of adverse effects have been observed in Wister albino mice following acute oral administration at the highest dose of 5000mg /kg body wt of EPHE. In sub-acute toxicity study daily oral administration 250,500 and 1000 mg/kg body wt of EPHE for up to 28 days did not result in death or significant changes in body weight, hematological and biochemical parameters. Studies on histopathological examination of vital organs showed normal architecture suggesting no morphological disturbances. The extract was found to be devoid of any toxicity in acute (5 g/kg) and sub-acute (250 mg, 500 mg, 1000 mg/kg body weight) toxicity evaluation in mice.
