The in vitro antidiabetic and cytotoxic activities of extracts from Lumbricusrubellus were examined in this study. We prepared extracts of earthworm paste with petroleum ether, 95 percent ethanol and phosphate buffer for a preliminary screening process. To determine antidiabetic properties, the team measured how much the ?-amylase enzyme was inhibited by using acarbose as the reference. Out of the extracts, ethanol showed the greatest inhibitory effect on ?-amylase, while petroleum ether and phosphate buffer came next. IC50 values were measured for all extracts and compared against acarbose. Results revealed that the petroleum ether extract was the most toxic for brine shrimp, followed by both the ethanol and phosphate buffer extracts. According to these results, Lumbricusrubellus earthworm paste appears to have significant antidiabetic and cytotoxic features, so additional studies are necessary for drug development.
