Bacterial and viral-induced pneumonia is a significant health problem in the world, especially in light of the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms. The paper discusses the possibility of Coptis chinensis alkaloids Coptisine, Berberine and Amoxicillin as NDM-4 beta-lactamase inhibitors of Klebsiella pneumoniae which is a primary cause of antibiotic resistance. The molecular docking simulations were used to compare the binding affinity of these ligands against the protein (PDB ID: 8SKO). It was found that Coptis chinensis alkaloids, especially Coptisine and Berberine, had high binding affinities and good interactions, which were superior to those of Amoxicillin. These natural products showed antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory activity promising a substitute to traditional antibiotics. This in silico study presents the prospective of Coptis chinensis alkaloids in beating antibiotic resistance and improving the management of pneumonia
