Abstract

In diabetes mellitus, insulin levels are reduced, target tissues are insulin-resistant, and insulin receptors are overactive. Around 400 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes mellitus, a health condition that affects the entire population. Alternative medicine uses traditionally used medicinal plants with fewer side effects for treating and managing diabetes mellitus than allopathic drugs. In this review, traditional medicinal plants are reviewed that are known to have antidiabetic properties. We conducted a literature search using databases including PubMed, Google Search, Springer, and MDPI and discovered that twenty one medicinal plants possess anti-diabetic phytochemicals that were described on the basis of their pharmacological mechanisms of action and molecular research articles that described their anti-diabetic properties. A number of methods are available for managing and controlling diabetes mellitus herbal sources. Taking herbal supplements can help manage and treat diabetes mellitus more efficiently, safely and inexpensively
