Coronary heart diseases (CHD), is the world largest single contributor of global mortality trends in the future. Majority of deaths in low and middle-income countries are due to Myocardial Infarction (MI). So, huge demand in finding novel therapeutic strategies has occurred now. Insects, have been utilized by ancient people worldwide for food and medicine. But utilization of ants as food and medicine has received less attention, So the present study is designed to evaluate the cardio protective effect of methanol extract of the edible weaver ant Oecophylla smaragdina (O.S) against isoproterenol induced cardiotoxicity in albino rats. In these various biochemical enzymatic parameters (Cardiac, lipoprotein and lipid metabolite) and Histopathological parameters have been analyzed and observed. MEOS (200 and 400mg/kg BW) showed a significant (P<0.0001) effect by reducing the increased cardiac enzymatic parameter (AST, ALT, CK, LDH and CKMB) Lipoprotein parameter (LDL and VLDL) and lipid metabolite (triglycerides and cholesterol). An increased concentration is also monitored in HDL intensity which showed the protective effect of cardiac by MEOS at different dose levels there by it supports the traditional use of O.S for cardiovascular diseases.
