Abstract

This work is a continuation of previous work during which we studied the effects of the aqueous extract of Ximenia americana on the hyperthermia induced in rats by the beer yeast. This work showed the antipyretic action of the aqueous extract of Ximenia americana, its effect seemed be due to saponins contained in the total extract so we started the splitting of the total extract of Ximenia americana to verify the hypothesis that the antipyretic effect of aqueous extract of Ximenia americana would be due to saponins. To do this we used the fractionation method developed by wagner this method gave us 6 fractions that were tested on rats, we have injected subcutaneously in the dorsolateral region, an aqueous suspension of beer yeast to 20%, this yeast causes in these animals an hyperthermia. The study of this hyperthermia induced by beer yeast, after administration of the lysine acetylsalicylate, a reference molecule, the aqueous extract of Ximenia americana and fractions F2, F4, F6 showed the antipyretic properties of these substances.
