Abstract

Essential (Primary) hypertension is the most common form of hypertension, accounting for 90–95% of all cases of hypertension. The essential hypertension is affected by many factors. Therefore actual causes are not known. The hypertension is controlled by using Antihypertensive drugs. Nowadays Telmisartan mostly prescribed to control the essential hypertension. The most common adverse drug reactions are commonly occurring ADRs, ankle swelling, dry mouth, weakness, tendon pain, muscle spasms, abdominal pain, back pain etc. This study was carried out on patients having essential hypertension in which the listing of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of telmisartan was done. These ADRs were classified in three categories viz. common, moderately common and rare ADRs. Apart from this few other ADRs were also reported which were brought into notification for awareness among the physicians as well as the common man. The results then obtained are shown in a graphical presentation according to the occurrence of ADRs.
