Abstract

Patients with diabetes mellitus have a higher risk for hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular heart disease than does the general population. The focus of this article is minimizing drug interactions on therapy for hypertension, dyslipidemia in patients with diabetes. Pharmacologic approaches and controversies concerning the use of various classes of antihypertensive drugs including calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers and diuretic therapy as well as antihyperlipidemic agents like statins, fibrates, resins are discussed in general as a tool for health care provider.
